Program Theory

Consistently achieving peak performance in situations that are perceived as challenging and risky is made possible by developing new understandings of the power of metaphor within a particular context; seeking the connection between body, mind, and emotion; using tested “tiny techniques”; and recognizing the importance of trust and teamwork. The ability to internalize and continuously integrate these elements is optimized when learning takes place in an intense, adrenaline-rich environment. Take Flight Workshops create such an environment and prepare participants for a defining experience—piloting a real airplane. It is argued that by placing participants in the cockpit to complete a series of in-flight tasks, a continuous process is jumpstarted that allows them to achieve peak performance not only in the short term (i.e., successfully piloting the airplane now), but also thereafter by applying gained knowledge and experience to their professional and personal lives over the long term.
